JEEVANI: CENTRE FOR STUDENT WELL-BEING
Jeevani is a pioneering mental health initiative spearheaded by the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. Launched in the academic year 2019-2020, the program is dedicated to addressing the mental health and well-being of students in Government Arts and Science Colleges. Expanding its outreach, Jeevani began serving aided colleges in the academic year 2023-2024, further cementing its commitment to fostering a culture of mental health awareness and support.
The Jeevani Centre for Student Well-being operates with the mission of ensuring the early identification and effective management of mental health challenges among college students. The program also focuses on mitigating risk factors while promoting health-protective behaviors and personal development.
Mrs. SNEHA M.T, trained Psychology Apprentice, appointed on 4 September 2024 in Govt. Arts and Science College, Mokeri. Her role involves offering confidential counseling and psychological assessment services, which are available on all working days from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM in a dedicated Jeevani consultation room.
Dr. Dinesh M P, Associate Professor in the Department of Econometrics and Data Management, serves as the Jeevani Coordinator, ensuring seamless integration of the program’s services into the college’s welfare framework.
The Jeevani Centre also organizes a variety of mental health promotion activities and awareness programs, collaborating with college women cell, various clubs and NSS units. These initiatives include skill enhancement workshops and perspective-changing activities aimed at nurturing students’ mental resilience and overall well-being.
Comprehensive documentation practices, including the maintenance of case registers, activity records, and report files, ensure that the program’s operations are both structured and effective. The well-equipped consultation room provides a safe and supportive space for students to seek guidance and support, underscoring Jeevani’s dedication to empowering students and enhancing mental health awareness in the academic community.
