Government College, Mokeri is ensconced in a picturesque campus of five acres over 50 km to the north of Kozhikode District of Kerala State. Established in 1981 the college serves the higher education needs of the rural populace in the hilly part of the Vatakara Taluk. The college offers six undergraduate programmes, three Postgraduate programmes with a total student strength of 804, and a Research Centre.

The main objective of the college is to impart quality education to socially, economically and educationally backward people in the hilly areas of the district. Our motto is ‘SOCIAL JUSTICE THROUGH EDUCATION’. The college is funded by the Government of Kerala.

The College represents the fulfilment of a long cherished dream of the people in and around the locality. This is the only center for higher studies owned and managed by the Government of Kerala to fulfill the aspirations of thousands of students passing out from around the 15 feeder higher secondary schools. The severe paucity of infrastructure facilities like good library, computer lab, staff quarters, hostels etc. has adversely affected the development of the college where in vast majority of the students come from poor and underprivileged sections.

Admitted under 2(f) and 12 (b) of the UGC act, it receives financial backup from the UGC for its development initiatives. Since it is affiliated to the University of Calicut, all its academic programmes are under the governance of the University.

The college has 6 departments viz., Mathematics, History, English, Oriental Languages, Commerce and Physical Education. Subjects like Statistics, Computer science, Political Science, Economics and Media Studies are also taught in the college as complementary courses. At present the college has 17 permanent teaching faculty and 16 guest faculty. Among the faculty, six have been awarded Ph.D and four have M.Phil Degree. The college has also got 19 members in the administrative wing.

With great visionaries at the apex of its administrative hierarchy and eminent scholars on the teaching faculty, Govt. College Mokeri set a fast pace of development adding four graduate Departments, two P.G Courses and a Research Centre.   With the cream of students from all over Kerala converging to this premier institution and pride of Malabar, the sprawling campus of Mokeri became an enviable confluence of excellence.

Maintaining an ideal ambiance and striking a delicate balance between curricular and co-curricular activities, this institution has been able to bring out toppers in University examinations, produce University athletic champions and mould students who have won laurels at the university level.

Imbued with the motto of development and progress in both knowledge level and infrastructure, the College has maintained its reputation for diversification. This institution has been equipped with digital environment like inflibnet, Edusat, English language lab, cyber points, digital classrooms, online library, a computerized library of more than 60000 books apart from academic and general journals, magazines, pamphlets, monographs and independent Internet facility at appropriate locations. The college possesses online books and journals to cater to the needs of the digitally sophisticated sphere. More than a score of forums and clubs that actively function in our campus supplement the efforts of the academicians.  A conducive atmosphere for the development of the intellectual, aesthetic, athletic and artistic potential of the students is ensured on the campus.
