DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

LATEST NEWS

The Department of History at Government College Mokeri was established in 1991 and offers a BA in History Honours degree program (FYUGP). Most of our students come from the rural areas of Vatakara and Koyilandy Taluks, bringing diverse perspectives and rich cultural backgrounds to our academic community.

Our department is dedicated to providing students with all the facilities needed for their holistic development. The general library is well-stocked with significant history books, covering major fields and periods, which supports both curriculum and research interests. Additionally, the Lyceum Club offers a platform for students to hone their skills in debates, public speaking, singing, and other co-curricular activities, fostering well-rounded personal growth.

We are proud of our high student success rate, with many graduates finding placements in various government and private sectors. Our alumni network remains actively involved in supporting current students and assisting those in need, embodying the spirit of community and mutual aid.

Final-year projects focus on local history, allowing students to explore and contribute to the understanding of our heritage. Our local history library, “Mokeri Shelf,” is a treasured resource, preserving valuable records of native history. To deepen their learning, students participate in study tours to historical and archaeological sites of significance, such as Delhi, Hyderabad, and Hampi, providing them with hands-on, empirical knowledge and a tangible connection to history.

Vision
To provide insights into the anecdotes of the past for realizing the realities of the present so as to enable the students to lead a meaningful life as responsible citizens.
