The event was conducted by the renowned folk singer and esteemed research scholar, Mr. Ajeesh Muchukunnu. The workshop offered a comprehensive exploration of the art of folk music, skillfully combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Mr. Ajeesh Muchukunnu delivered an insightful presentation on the history, cultural significance, and traditions of folk songs. This was followed by interactive training sessions, where participants were guided in mastering the unique melodies and techniques of this traditional art form. BASHEER ANUSMARANAM 2023 JULY On Basheer Anusmaranam Day, 5th July 2022, the Department of Malayalam conducted an essay competition on the topic The Narrative Style of Basheer’ (Basheerinte Aakhyanakala). Aryananda, a second-year degree student, won the first prize among 20 participants.
KERALAPPIRAVI DINAGHOSHAM 2023 NOVEMBER On 3 November 2023, Kerala Formation Day was celebrated at Government College, Mokeri, with an inaugural ceremony led by Dr. K. M. Barathan, a renowned writer and scholar. In his thought-provoking address, Dr. Barathan reflected on the significance of Keralappiravi (Kerala Formation Day) and the contemporary challenges faced by the Malayalam language.
NATIONAL SEMINAR 2023-24 2023 NOVEMBER The Department of Malayalam, Government College Mokeri, with financial support from the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala, conducted a one-day national seminar on “Language, Literature, and Film Studies” on 6 November 2023 at the college seminar hall.
The seminar was formally inaugurated by Dr. Githesh T, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Malayalam, Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu. The inaugural session was presided over by Mr. Ashraf Koilothankandi, Principal (in charge).
Six academic sessions were included in the seminar. The first session, titled “Symbolism in Films,” was presented by Dr. Githesh T. The second session, held from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, was on “The World of the Short Story in Malayalam”and was presented by Dr. Rajeev U, Assistant Professor of Malayalam, Government College Kasaragod.
In the third session, held from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, Dr. Radhika K. N., Assistant Professor of Hindi at Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College, Mahe, Puducherry, presented a paper on “The Influence of Films on Society and Literature.”
The fourth and final session was handled by Mr. Nizar Koolikkol, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Arabic, Government College Kasaragod, who presented a paper on “The Arabic Language in Kerala.”
KERALAPPIRAVI DINAGHOSHAM 2024 NOVEMBER The Department of Malayalam organized a vibrant series of events to mark Kerala Piravi Week, celebrating the rich heritage and legacy of the Malayalam language.
The celebrations began on 01/11/2024, with the formal inauguration of Malayalam Day at 11:00 AM in the college seminar hall. Dr. Liyaqath Ali, Head of the Department of Arabic, presided over the event, while Mr. Safeer V. M., Head of the Department of History, delivered the welcome address.
In his presidential address, Dr. Liyaqath Ali expressed profound concern over the challenges faced by the Malayalam language, particularly the moral decline and the growing trend of centralizing power at the expense of decentralization. He urged the audience to uphold the values and relevance of Malayalam in an increasingly globalized world.
The college principal, Mr. Ashraf K. K., formally inaugurated the ‘Governance Week Celebrations’, delivering an insightful speech that traced India’s transformation from a fragmented collection of over 500 princely states into a unified nation. He also highlighted the historical significance of forming states based on linguistic identity.
Navadev, the college union chairman, extended his best wishes for the celebrations, while Mrs. Majida, Assistant Professor of Hindi, proposed the vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the formal proceedings.
The stage then transitioned to cultural performances that beautifully showcased the essence of Kerala’s heritage, with traditional dances and folk songs receiving widespread appreciation.
On 04/11/2024, at 10:00 AM, a discussion titled “Contemporary Challenges Faced by the Malayalam Language” was organized under the leadership of Dr. Shamna N. M., Head of the Malayalam Department. The session provided a platform for thought-provoking discussions on the language’s current issues and possible solutions.
On 05/11/2024, at 11:30 AM, the Department of Oriental Languages conducted a quiz competition focusing on Malayalam language and literature. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, fostering greater appreciation and knowledge of Malayalam’s literary treasures. On 06/11/2024, at 2:30 PM, the college EDUSAT room hosted a ‘nimisha kavitha mathsaram ‘ and a speech competition. Students participated with immense enthusiasm, showcasing their linguistic creativity and oratory skills, leaving the judges and audience highly impressed.
The week-long celebrations concluded on 07/11/2024, at 10:30 AM in the seminar hall, with the Department of Oriental Languages presenting ‘Manorathangal’, a theatrical adaptation of nine short stories by the legendary Malayalam writer M. T. Vasudevan Nair. The powerful performances captured the depth and emotions of M. T.’s storytelling, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Following this, a film review session was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Shamna N. M., providing a platform to critically analyze and discuss Malayalam films, thereby blending academic inquiry with creative appreciation.
